9th January '08 - September Swap Meet Review by Simon

Sunday 23rd September 2007

As usual there was a good turn out of loyal customers, thanks to everyone that travelled down, and also to all the local customers that attended.

The road was full with a good selection of aircooled Volkswagens, and the commercial line up was a great success, KK’s own Barndoor Panel and Bay Window Fire Truck were first in the line up along with some really nice logo’d Panel vans, Pick up’s and Crewcabs. With plenty of Split screens, Bay windows and T25’s on display there was something for everyone.

There were bargains to be had in the shop, and the swapmeet area had some interesting parts on offer, people seemed to be going away very happy with what they had bought.

The B-B-Q was smoking away as usual (so was Will!), with free food being served all day, all donations collected from the B-B-Q went to our favorite charity Fair Havens Hospice, a very big thank you to Will, Anna and Karen who gave up their day to cook and serve the food. mmmmmmmmmm

It was great to see that everyone had a good time, and we hope to see a good turn out for the next sale day!

11th December - Christmas Sale Day pictures uploaded

Yet again our fearless customers braved the December weather and came down to take advantage of the Christmas bargains on offer at KK. Although fresh, it turned out to be a lovely sunny day and we had a road full of awesome Bugs & Buses along with the odd Vintage Porsche.

8th November - September Swap Meet Pics Uploaded

Sunday 24th September 2006

Our September swapmeet was once again well attended and a fantastic success with a great selection of aircooled VW’s & Porsche’s attending throughout the day, taking full advantage of the big discounts available in the shop and the many bargains in the swapmeet!

A big thank you to Angela and Meg who served up great food from the free BBQ all day long and also to everyone who came, oh, and the weather which held out for us yet again!

Although all the food & drink was free, a collection box was put out by the BBQ and contributions were made in aid of a local charity, Fair Havens Hospice who provide In-Patient, Day and Community care for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses throughout the communities of Southend, Rochford and Castle Point. We were all very pleased to be able to donate £96.44, thank you to all who contributed to that.

September 2004 Swap Meet Review by Chris Brawn
I had never been to Karmann Konnection before this day back in September. I was very excited and my expectations were high as I had herd a lot about the museum and wanted to look around the shop. I met up with Splitty crew cab Dave at about 800hrs and headed off towards Maidstone services where we picked up Darren. Tim also arrived with a car full in his purple and white Bug so we headed off in a two car convoy. We arrived in Southend and after getting a bit lost, met up with another Bug and drove around till we found it.

I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see a road full of Volkswagens parked either side outside the premises. We parked up and eagerly went in to have a look at the stalls. Paul Knight and the Ultra VW mag crew were there with their stand. There were not many traders but there was some good stuff for sale and I picked up some good bargains (more little vee dubs for my extensive collection, much to the dismay of the missus!) Free food was also provided in the form of a BBQ along with beer, soft drinks and even sweets for the kids. Top marks Mr. King ! Whilst there we met up with Dougy and Nikki in the now sold Samba, and Nigel who spent some time looking around before heading down to the sea front in the afternoon.

There were some real crackers in the vehicle department. There was the barn door display which was an attempt to break the world record for the most barn door Type 2's in one gathering, which unfortunately they didn't manage. They did, however, break the European record which is a great achievement.

The blue Porsche 911 powered splitty also attended (this is some bus!). We had a chat with this guy about the conversian and there is some serious work on this bus I can tell you! The cars, although not in the same numbers as buses, were great too. There were some real beauties-the front engined V8 powered Oval done up as the American flag and the Porsche's, well just don't get me started! Those who know me know I love them and I was well smitten on this occasion. There was a tatty 914 in yellow all in standard trim, two gorgeous white 356 coupes (again standard), a hard as nails silver 356 coupe running the later fuch's with no bumpers (one of my personal favourites) and then the 356's in the KK museum along with a poor unloved example just outside which needed total restoration. What I would give for that to be in my garage as a long-term project!! There was also a display of lowrider and chopper type push bikes just outside the museum which were madder than a mad thing in a mad shop.

All in all I was very impressed. I met some very interesting people and saw some lovely cars. I briefly spoke to Mr. King himself, who seemed a very nice guy. I had a bloody good time and to top it off, got my pop out window which enabled me to get on with my bug again so I was well chuffed! This event comes as highly recommended and is well worth attending next year.

Karmann Konnection’s Swapmeet and Barndoor Record Attempt.

Sunday 26th September 2004

Our September Swapmeet was very well attended this year with loads of people, plenty of Swapmeet tables and and a large display of Barndoor Vans.

The intention was to assemble the largest line up of Barndoor’s possible and break the record. With a total of 14 vans the European record was well and truly broken ! The world record stands at 33, which may prove a little harder to break.

We would all like to thank every one who came and especially all the Barndoor owners who went out of their way to get the Vans here!
